There’s humor and heartbreak in the reflections of life and family in this mini family saga by Chinese author, Yiyun Li..
Feisty octogenarian Lilia Imbody reflects on her life and gives an entertaining, running commentary as she reads the memoir of Roland Bouley — her deceased former lover, who also happens to be the father of her daughter.
While there is history about their romance, the story is really more about the dynamics of family and relationships, especially the story about Imbody’s contemplations about her daughter’s life and death.
Must I Go is a moving story told from the viewpoint of a wise woman who has lived a full and relatively happy life. There are a plethora of poignant life observations to take away from this book.
